Service Opportunities

Serve in Love at Christ Church of the Ascension

Serving at Christ Church of the Ascension is core to who we are as a community. That includes a variety of ways to serve those outside the parish and also serve right here in our own parish. Serving is a great way to get to know other parishioners and have a great time with friends.

NOTE: In accordance with Diocesan and CCA standards, all volunteers who have regular contact with children and youth must take Safeguarding courses. Click HERE for more information.

Ways to Serve at CCA

Acolytes

Youth Acolytes (typically starting around 3rd grade) play an integral role in worship services at CCA. Acolytes lead the altar party into and out of worship by carrying the processional cross and torches, holding the Gospel Book, taking the offering up for a blessing, and more. Contact Shana Halpin at shana.halpin@ccaaz.org for more info.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild of a parish sets the altar, cares for communion vessels, and tends to the linens that adorn the altar. The Altar Guild also shares in our community’s greatest joys at Weddings and Baptisms and our greatest sorrows at Memorial Services by supporting these services. Contact Jerelyn Walters at
info@ccaaz.org for more information.

Ascension Book and Gift Shop

Reopening in Fall of 2023! The Book and Gift Shop is always seeking volunteers to help with sales on Sundays before and after morning services and occasional merchandising. If you have an eye for lovely products, or just enjoy being in retail, this is a great place to get involved. Sales from the shop support the mission and outreach portions of our operating budget. Contact Christine Brandell at info@ccaaz.org if you are interested in helping out!

Children/Youth Programs

Our children and youth are vibrant and vital parts of this congregation! You can support and encourage their faith by volunteering to help out with one of our Children's or Youth Ministry programs! We have a nursery, and Sunday School on Sundays, Vacation Bible School during summer, and youth group meetings throughout the year. Contact Shana Halpin at shana.halpin@ccaaz.org for more information.

Flower Guild
The Flower Guild adorns the altar each week with beautiful floral arrangements for Sunday services and special events. Beginners and seasoned flower arrangers alike are welcome to take part! Contact Barbie Moody at info@ccaaz.org for more information.

Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee coordinates Coffee Hours and events with food, beverages, and fellowship. They help greet families and put out provided food for receptions and offer several wonderful parish events annually. Contact Jerelyn Walters at
info@ccaaz.org for more information.

Pastoral Care

We have a committed group of volunteers who help with pastoral visits, phone calls, and take Eucharist to those in our community needing home services for a variety of reasons. Training is a part of the program. Contact Jean Hawkins at info@ccaaz.org for more information.

Sunshine Committee

The CCA Sunshine Committee offers a ministry of meals to anyone who is going through a transition such as illness, surgery, birth, loss of a loved one, a move, or any other need. Meals can be taken for short or longer periods as needed in the midst of life challenges. The ministry  includes bringing Christ’s loving presence in a visit to  someone in need. The Sunshine Committee ministry offers the opportunity to give and receive love as we care for our community and for each other. Contact coordinator Cynthia Byers at info@ccaaz.org  for more information.

Worship Servers

Our worship only comes together thanks to the many hearts and hands of our faithful volunteers. You too can serve as a:

  • Lector or Intercessor - read the Scripture readings and/or Prayers of the People during our services.
  • Chalice Bearer - offer the communion cup to the congregation during Eucharist.
  • Usher - be the first point of welcome, gather the offertory collection, and assure everyone feels at home.
  • Greeter - get to know our visitors on Sundays so everyone feels connected, seen, and valued.

Contact the office at info@ccaaz.org to get connected to our many worship ministry leaders.
