Baptism

Baptism at Christ Church of the Ascension

Baptism is a sacrament instituted by Our Lord that provides for our initiation in the body of Christ on earth, the Church. It is the beginning of a lifelong journey – the opening of a channel of grace between God and humanity through which a person may grow in holiness in the hope of being counted among the company of the redeemed in heaven. Baptism gives us new life in the Spirit, a life in which blessings abound to those who are truly penitent. For adults, the choice to be baptized is the choice to belong to Christ forever and to welcome Him into every aspect of life. Infants and children are welcomed into the body of Christ with the understanding that they will be brought up in the Church and learn from their parents and godparents to love and serve the Lord.

The Church has traditionally set aside four principle feast days as particularly suitable dates for baptisms: Easter (Vigil - Saturday, April 11, 2020), Pentecost (Sunday, May 31, 2020), All Saints’ Day (November 3, 2019), and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (Sunday, January 12, 2020). Christ Church of the Ascension offers opportunities for baptism on these four occasions each year.

If you or your child seek initiation to the Episcopal Church through Baptism, or Confirmation, you (and your child) must complete one of the Catechumenate courses below. Classes will be held for seven weeks on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am on the following dates:

Course 1: November 3 through December 15, 2019
Course 2: February 23 through April 5, 2020

Adult inquirers and parents wishing to have their child baptized should contact Shana Halpin for more information on baptism dates and processes. 602-840-8210 or shana.halpin@ccaaz.org.
