Stewardship 2019

Dear Friends and Family of Christ Church of the Ascension,

As these cool nights and sunny days promise, fall has arrived, and we are reminded to be grateful – we have survived another summer in the desert. Fall has come in with rain. In these waning days of the long growing season of Pentecost, the church year is also ending. Advent is on the horizon. This is also a time of year when we take stock and give thanks for the blessings we have received, noting the rhythm of life that is driven not by the bottom line but by the grace of God.

This stewardship season we will focus on these three words: gratitude, generosity, and grace. There is so much to be grateful for this year, and your generosity of time, talent and treasure continues to be a blessing. We are thankful for new staff members and new opportunities to grow in service, spiritual living, and praising God through our worship and song.

We see our life as being on loan to us, a gift that we revere with gratitude and hold with open hands. Life is a gift we have to use and give away, because the realm of God is abundant, and we are invited into its fullness.

In the language of the church, stewardship is an attitude about life which leads to action, and action requires a generosity of spirit. Without Christ at the center, we are inclined to hold back for fear of not having enough, but thanks be to God, grace abounds. We are children of the loving God whose provision of love is always enough. We are called to trust in the promises of God’s mercy.

There will be many details to report at the Annual Parish Meeting. But for now, we simply offer thanks for this year and your continuing generosity.

The Annual Stewardship Season officially begins on November 4, and we will bless your gifts and pledges for 2019 at our three Sunday services on November 28. The goal for 2019 is $575,000. Remember, every gift is received with joy. Consider the words of Hymn 304, Land of Rest as a reminder of our life together – a life of gratitude, generosity, and grace:

“As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. That love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends.” – Land of Rest, Hymn 304, stanza 3

May God continue to bless the saints at Christ Church of the Ascension!
