There comes a time to say good-bye, and this is it. Sunday will be my last services at Christ Church of the Ascension as rector. It has been quite a time.
There was time to confront and have conflict, time to forgive and make peace. There will be time this weekend to celebrate and to grieve.
In all of it, we will worship. For God has been in our midst, walking with us, going before us, and coming after us. God is the source and will receive the beautiful offering in the end. God is the Alpha and the Omega.
In this place and in our time, we have known him in Christ, we have loved him in worship and in each other, and we have served.
I am deeply grateful for the last six years, and as we come to end, of course I have been reminiscing. I want to say thank you to everyone who has given to the parish faithfully and generously, everyone who has served on vestries and committees, and the volunteers and members who make this place holy.
I owe special thanks to my senior wardens and staff members who have given so much and put up with so many bad jokes.
There should be time to name everyone by name, but there isn’t. Know that you will be carried in prayer before the throne of Christ for years.
My contact information will change, and my social media will go dark for a time. The office will have my information in time, and my social media will be moved to something more official.
You are in good hands. And keep this church in your hands. It will be as long as your hands are faithful to the commands of Christ.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
