Staff at Christ Church of the Ascension

Allison Brown, Parish Administrator

Allison is a Phoenix native and grew up downtown.  She was a member of Christ Church prior to taking her current position in 2017. Over the course of her career, she has served on three non-profit Boards, one of which was the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California and a Certificate of Graphic Design. Shana Halpin, Missioner to Children and Families

Shana has been a teacher for the past 15 years, most recently at Christ Church School. She was born and raised in Louisiana and later moved to Los Angeles where she met James, her husband. They relocated to Phoenix to raise their two now teenage children.

Jody Cash, Communications/Administrative Assistant

Jody earned a BA in Communication Arts (with an emphasis in Marketing) from Hillsdale College in Michigan, then moved to Arizona to marry her college sweetheart, Dave. She worked in retail management and buying for 10 years, and began teaching preschool when their two daughters were young. She came to Christ Church School in 2006 as a preschool teacher and transitioned into a variety of positions in the school office as the school expanded. Jody has held various community and church volunteer positions throughout the past 20 years involving leadership, teaching/ training, and fundraising. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, Bible study, music, and walking with her dogs.

Tom Peterson, Music Director

In addition to his role at Christ Church, Tom Peterson is the Assistant Director of the Phoenix Chorale, and an active composer and arranger, published by E. C. Schirmer on the Dale Warland Choral Series. He earned his MMus in composition at the Royal College of Music in London, and his DMA in choral conducting at the University of Arizona. In between, he spent four years on the faculty of Phoenix College, where he taught music theory, ear training, and music history.

Tom has been part of Christ Church's music program since 2010, and became Music Director in 2013. An Arizona native, he and his wife, Teriann, live in Phoenix with their son, Theodore, and their dog, Roxie. Tom can be reached at 602-840-8210 or click here to send Tom an email.

Nicholas Halbert, Organist

Nicholas Halbert is an Organist based in Phoenix, Arizona. He has spent almost 18 years in church music, beginning when he joined the St. Paul's Cathedral Boy Choristers at the age of 8 in San Diego, California. He was appointed the Organ Scholar there at 16, and served for two years as the primary accompanist and service player for the weekly masses and evensongs. He attended the Eastman School of Music, earning a BM in Organ in the studio of Nathan Laube. He earned a MM and Performer's Diploma in Organ at Southern Methodist University in the studio of Stefan Engels, with liturgical playing lessons under Scott Dettra.

While in Dallas he served at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration and at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. Here in Phoenix he attends Arizona State University for his DMA with Kimberly Marshall.

When he is not practicing, Nicholas loves to cook French food, go body-surfing in San Diego, and root for the Saints!
