Here We Go Again: COVID 19 Second Peak

Here We Go Again: COVID 19 Second Peak

In our house, I had a ridiculous rule for the kids. As a family, we would never watch a movie that was part two of a cartoon. No Barbie Princess 2. They could watch it when I was not around, but no adults should have to be put through that.

Now we are in the summer reboot of the spring. Our numbers in Arizona have shot up in the last couple of weeks, and no one wants to hear that we may have to go back inside. Already bars and gyms are closed again, and we may face more restrictions in the weeks ahead if our hospitals get overwhelmed.

This can be discouraging. Can’t Hollywood come up with an original script? Can’t we live responsibly?

Sometimes it helps to reframe the moment. We knew that this was a possibility from the beginning. All along experts told us that we would experience another surge and that this pandemic would likely continue, especially with reopening.

Buckle in. This could be a while. How can this moment become an opportunity for your personal life? For your faith life? What practices can you take on to deepen your relationships with God and others?

We offer several opportunities for the Christ Church family to be together and study. Join us. But maybe it is time to learn to meditate or read a Christian classic, like Theresa of Avila’s The Interior Castle or the Cloud of Unknowing by John of the Cross.

This moment presents us with a choice about whom we will be. Every moment does. But in this moment, rather than be discouraged, think about how we can be wise.

As we learn to live into the moments we are given, we learn to live in Christ and his work right now in our midst. Don’t be discouraged!

“ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
