Have you considered hosting Coffee Hour? It is a great way to get involved and visit with friends and family after church in the Parish Hall. As the host you would:
- Provide food (something simple like doughnuts) for 25-50 people
- Drop food off in the kitchen before the 10:15am service

Our next scheduled meeting will be held July 10th.
Joy in the Desert Chapter of The Order of the Daughters of the King © (DoK) was installed at Christ Church of the Ascension on August 10, 2014, the Rev. Phillip Jackson, Rector, presiding.
It is a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to prayer, service and evangelism to enhance our spiritual growth and that of the parish we are in. We are 28,000 strong in the United States, and in multiple other countries. For more Daughters information, or cities where Daughters chapters are located, please see our website at www.doknational.org.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as Daughters is to know Jesus Christ, to make him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.
We meet on the second Sunday of each month in the CCA Conference Room from 11:30 until approximately 1 pm (BYO lunch and drink), and maintain a Daughters Prayer List, which is updated monthly and whenever any Daughter receives a request to be added. We also sponsor a number of events throughout the year, such as trips to Quiet Days and Gatherings, tours for the Stations of the Cross, meditation half hours between morning services during both Christmas and Lent, a yearly Diocesan Gathering, and our international Triennial (near Salt Lake City in 2015 and in Austin, TX in 2018).
Our Motto begins: "I am but one; but I am one. I can't do everything, but I can do something." We strive to be blessed to be a blessing.
Do you love to sing? Want to come give it a try without the weekly commitment? Then join us for the season's first Summer Choir. Come to the Choir Room at 8 a.m. (you don't need to bring anything -- except a friend if you'd like), we'll rehearse briefly, then sing for the 9 a.m. service. It's simple, easy, and fun All are welcome!
Christ Church of the Ascension is blessed to have an outstanding choir! Music is an important part of our worship, and the choir enriches it by singing a wide variety of hymns and anthems from the Renaissance to the music of today. Whether leading congregational singing or providing the parish a space in time to meditate and pray, music can highlight worship at its most contemplative, joyful, and — hopefully — transformative.
The acolyte program at Christ Church of the Ascension is open to all girls and boys 3rd grade through high school.
Acolytes assist the celebrant (the priest in charge of a worship service) and enhance the worship service to help glorify God. Every action that is taken at the altar is done respectfully and in a dignified manner. Our goal is that the attention of the congregation be on the liturgy and not on the ministers. The service of our acolytes is greatly appreciated. Serving as an acolyte is a commitment of time and talent to the Lord’s service.
Two to four acolytes typically serve during the 10:15 am service during the months of September through May. Additional acolytes may be needed at High Holy Days.
Whether you are new to Christ Church, new to the Christian faith, a long-time Episcopalian, or simply interest in growing your knowledge of the church, these classes are for you!
The next Newcomers Class will begin in May 2014. Fr. Phil leads the class on Wednesday nights for 5 weeks in the Teen Center.
Each class covers one of the Four Foundations of our church: Worship, Service, Giving, and Education. Please join us for some fun and enlightening classes.
LEVS take Holy Communion to parishioners who are not able to come to church to receive this sacrament. Our trained LEVs carry Home Communion Kits. LEVs visit people assigned to them at least once each month. LEVs are sometimes asked to take communion to parishioners who are in a hospital or in a rehabilitation center. This is a very personal ministry. Lay Eucharistic Visitors report directly to the Clergy.
The Sunshine Committee is a special outreach ministry of Christ Church of the Ascension. They are a group of parishioners called to serve others by bringing delicious meals after surgery, the birth of a baby, or at any time of life's transitions.
The Altar Guild is a group of dedicated women called to serve God by preparing and tending the place of worship. We offer our time and talents in this ministry of joy and love. We are responsible for the care and cleaning of all vessels, vestments, and linens as well as providing candles, bread and wine for all regular services. Additionally we help with weddings and memorial services. We welcome all interested Parish members.

The leader(s) select which Book(s) of the Bible will be discussed. The group is presented with Biblical texts and also with scholars’ approaches to these texts. The women are then encouraged to discuss how these Biblical texts speak to each in her own life as well as in the broader contemporary culture.
Education for Ministry Begins Monday, September 14th @ 6 pm!
Education for Ministry at Christ Church of the Ascension focuses on church history from about 100AD until about 1700AD. We meet Monday evenings from 6:00 until 9:00. There are several openings available. Individuals who have completed the first and second years of EFM are invited to join us. For more information, please contact Duane Hoole or the church office at 602-840-8210. This opportunity is open to people from other churches, denominations, and religious backgrounds.
Education for Ministry (EFM) is a program of Christian theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year adult class. About half the class time is devoted to an academic study of the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. (There are no tests, no papers due.) The other half of our time, we delve into discussions covering many topics generated by the class. Students meet once a week under the guidance of trained mentors.
