Weddings
The Church understands the marriage of a man and a woman as a fundamental building block of a properly-ordered human society. The Book of Common Prayer teaches that “the bond and covenant of marriage was established by God in creation” and that “it signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and his Church” (p. 423). A wedding is a rite which binds together a man and a woman before God and is designed to serve as a display window to the world. Just as God loves us, we are to love one another. Marriage is an occasion for immense joy, as well as a serious decision that must be entered into freely, prayerfully, and realistically.
Christ Church of the Ascension has a beautiful campus that is a perfect location for a memorable wedding. We ask that couples attend services here for at least six months before their wedding date, and that they attend premarital counseling sessions with one of our clergy. If you are interested in being married at Christ Church of the Ascension, please contact Fr. Phil.
Funerals
A funeral is the Church’s principle rite for marking one’s transition from this life to the next. In the midst of what is often great sadness, the Church reminds those who remain in this world of Christian hope. Just as Our Lord was raised from the dead and reigns in heaven, we trust in His promise of eternal life to those who put their trust in Him. We pray that our beloved dead will be found acceptable in the sight of God and will find rest in that place where there is no pain or hardship. A funeral is a solemn act of remembrance that points towards a reality beyond the things of this transitory life.
The Clergy are here to assist you with funeral arrangements, whether it is a burial at a cemetery or a cremation with the disposition of the ashes here in our Memorial Garden. The church staff are also available to help you plan a reception if desired.
