Phil

Fr. Phillip A. Jackson, Rector

The Rev. Phillip A. Jackson is the fifth Rector of Christ Church of the Ascension. Fr. Phil has a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Amherst College, a J.D. from the Yale Law School, and his M.Div. from The Church Divinity of the Pacific.

Before coming to Christ Church of the Ascension, Fr. Phil served parishes in Texas and Michigan. He and his wife, Page, live in Scottsdale with their two dogs and one cat.

Fr. Thomas Davidson, Priest

Fr. Davidson was called to Holy Orders during a successful career in Human Resources.  Graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Sociology and Psychology, he held increasingly responsible positions with AT&T and Motorola culminating in his appointment as VP of Human Resources for Ramada Inns, Inc.

After several years of study and laity service to the church, he was ordained Deacon in 1994 and elevated to the Priesthood in 2005.  He served the parish of All Saints’ in Phoenix for 15 years before coming to us in December 2007.  His primary responsibilities are pastoral care and ministry to seniors.  (He is also responsible for keeping Fr. Phil humble and in line).

Tom’s wife, Jas, is a lay reader, Altar Guild member and founder of our Prayer Shawl Knitting Ministry.  The Davidson’s leave us during the summer months for their home in Victoria, British Columbia where Fr. Tom serves as an Honorary Assistant at Christ Church Cathedral.

Fr. David Pettengill, Priest

The Rev. Canon David E. Pettengill has been a priest in the Diocese of Arizona since 1960.  David has served as a full time priest in four parishes before retirement and has supplied in 20 since retirement the first of 1995.

He loves people and Christ Church of the Ascension. His hobbies are hiking, photography and lapidary.  He and his wife, Lois, have been married 57 years. Their son, David, is a tennis pro in Rochester, MN

Today is the best day of our life.
It is the only one we can do anything about.

Julie Lyons, Director of Children’s Ministries

Julie has lived in Arizona since 2001.  She comes to Christ Church with a multidisciplinary background.  Julie earned her BA from San Francisco State University and her MHI from Arizona State University.   Before coming to Christ Church, Julie worked as the Director of Marketing and Development at Christ Church School.  Julie has also enjoyed serving as a children’s leader in Bible Study Fellowship and a substitute teacher at Scottsdale Christian Academy.

Julie is honored and humbled to have the privilege of serving the children and families of Christ Church.  Her desire is to continually draw near to God and to do the work He puts in front of her.

Julie and her daughter Abigayle live in Phoenix with their two dogs.  Julie loves to spend time with her daughter, cooking, swiming, and reading.

Carl W. Reid, Sexton

Carl has been Sexton for over 7 years and a member of Christ Church since 1999. He takes pride in keeping the Church and its campus in tip top condition. Carl is retired after 30 years with W.W. Grainger Co., a nationwide wholesale electrical company.

Carl and his wife Ester have been married for 40 years. They have a son and daughter along with 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His hobby is collecting, restoring and showing classic old American cars.

Cindy Duffy, Office Assistant

Cindy Duffy has been with Christ Church of the Ascension since October 2004. Cindy is the person who’s voice you will hear when you call the Church Office. She is here to assist the other staff and to help when needed.

Cindy has a background in human resources, payroll and accounting in the property management industry, and holds a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Illinois University.

Norman Summer, Music Director

Norman Summer has been a church musician all of his working life.  He has served parishes, small and large, as pianist, organist, tenor soloist, or choral conductor for over fifty years.

He began his work at Christ Church of the Ascension in 1985.

Ann Hollman, Church Organist

Ann Hollmann has been organist at Christ Church of the Ascension for 10 years, and has been a church musician for 45 years at various parishes.  She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance.  Ann and her husband John live in Mesa with their dog, Jake.  Ann and John have been married for 37 years, and have a daughter Sarah, son Paul, daughter-in-law Sharon and grandson Leif.

Nan Marvin, Controller

Nan is a CPA with a Masters Degree in Accounting and has been involved with church finance both on the Diocesan and Parish levels for over 40 years. She currently is the treasurer for the executive board of Chapel Rock.

Nan and her husband, Bob, have been members of Christ Church since the early 60’s. In addition to filling the position as controller, she served as clerk of Vestry, treasurer and chairman of the finance committee, president of the ECW, chaired numerous committees, edited and published of the newsletter and church directory.
